Oh yep--I knew that...BD has posted it before (this is what you get by being a really old fart...).

I always apologize to BD though, because I know he posts it with some appreciation of her contribution, I like some of the rest of it...it's more for the cont'ing endorsement of the "myth" component of the dropping of the two bombs that I object to, in a small way.

But thanks for thinking of me--I am often in need of dramatic corrections and explanations!

W.T. - that's cool. I will always support anyone who wants to object to any bombings whatsoever . . . and to not seem as if I'm trying to make light of such a serious issue, i'll extend that to bird droppings as well.

Though I gather that I'm in your neighborhood of years spent on the planet W.T., I hear people are lining up and paying good money to see a couple of 'old farts' that exceed us in years . . . I've heard said - and keep reminding myself - "you're only as old as you want to be" and "you're only as pretty as you feel". be well

Thanks for the kind words, and good advice, DP; my only trouble is my failing frame (largely structural issues with the back/knee/etc) do indeed mean that my body, independent of juvenile spirit, has forsaken me...but hey, like the point about whether Phil or Crosby contributed to the demise of their livers, I have to accept that I brought much of it on via my love of bball, and wouldn't stop when the docs told me to...then HAD to, and found I had to give up a great deal more as well. I don't know I could have done it any other way, but it's been a big bill to pay the past decade or so. Add in a few other insults and injuries, and it really has been a case of piling on--not that I like being out in front on this particular series of accomplishments.

As I have said so often before, however, it beats the heck out of the alternative (cashing it all in rather than struggling on with some health issues), eh? And it's not necessarily what you do in this world, as what you endure (and how you do that) that can be the measure of a man (or woman).

"Though I gather that I'm in your neighborhood of years spent on the planet W.T." . . . and now I find myself in your neighborhood geographically - I think. My father just got out of surgery, and even though I've been unable to fly (let alone walk much) in the last year, love and duty have forced the issue and I find myself in Oro Valley just north of Tucson (which I gather is where you and Mr. Jameson are dealing with poor health and suffering). If indeed you are in Tucson and would like a visit from a sympathetic Deadhead (and Cream fan) and fellow convalescent, I could use a break from my time in Saddlebrook - which is way too much like Portmerion and the Prisoner with it's golf carts and surreal vibe. I don't know how to communicate with folks here off forum, but if you'd like a visit or even a chat or off-forum e-mail exchange, let me know. I'll be in the area till monday night, 10/4.

Your comments from August 1 - "As I have said so often before, however, it beats the heck out of the alternative (cashing it all in rather than struggling on with some health issues), eh? And it's not necessarily what you do in this world, as what you endure (and how you do that) that can be the measure of a man (or woman)" - hit the spot perfectly as I was fighting depression over my own long term health issues. I thank you for that. Be well, take care, and perhaps, in Patrick McGoohan's words, "be seeing you". bill
